When I think of bedrooms, I think of a room that evokes rest, looks and feels cozy and is welcoming. A place where sweet dreams can be had. Here are a few tips and ideas to think about when decorating/redecorating your dream space.
When thinking about colors, you want to choose one(s) that create that relaxing feeling.
- Shades of greens are associated with comfort, quiet or relaxation.
- Reds, pinks or peachy hues are associated with warmth or romance.
- Blues and purples are associated with calming or soothing.
Creating an atmosphere of relaxation includes all the senses. You want what you see, touch, smell and even hear to be considered.
- Candles are both romantic as well as can be selected for their scents. Candles come in a variety of scents. Aromatherapy candles are very popular right now.
- Pillows are important. When you buy pillows they are nice and fluffy as well as supportive for your head and neck. When your pillows start to degrade (flatten/lose their fluffiness) don't put off buying new ones. As well decorative pillows add nice visual pops of color and add a comfortable, inviting, luxurious look to the bed.
- Keep a CD player near the bed. Have a nice selection of music that evokes relaxation or for some people white sound evokes relaxation. White sound can be the sound of the ocean, or rainforest or any environment you feel relaxed in, so when you close your eyes, you can picture yourself there.
How good does it feel when you climb into bed between nice crisp, clean sheets? Sheets lose their comfort level just like pillows, so purchasing a new set every three months or so are a inexpensive way to keep that feeling.
When thinking of room accessories, think soft and comfortable. Even if you are a modern or contemporary person in your decor, adding elements that are emote softness, comfort or coziness are important.
- A fabric covered dressing screen (DIY Screen) or painted screen. Can soften the lines of a room by curving the hard lines/corners. They can also camoflauge an area you have clutter or provide a privacy area for dressing.
- A comfy chair with a little side table can be a nice quiet space for reading before bed or even just a place to sit when putting on socks and shoes.
- A soft, cozy lap blanket laid across the corner of the bed or thrown over the chair makes your eye drawn to snuggling under it.
- An area rug that is plush adds softness and texture to a room and it feels really nice and soft when squished between your toes as you get into bed.
- If your bedroom window has a nice view, arrange your room if possible to face the window. What a relaxing feeling to wake up to a nice view.
These are just a few of many ideas for complimenting a room to create that peaceful sanctuary of restful bliss, I wish you all...sweet dreams.
