Recently we purchased a new home, well new to us. We had gone around removing old wallpaper left by the previous home owners and painting in our own color styles. In the kitchen once we painted, we thought about what we could accessorize with to inspire hunger in those who entered, which led us to food art.
Food art? Well think about when you walk into a restaurant and look at photos in a menu, or those large as life photos of food ingredients used in preparing those delicious sub sandwiches you get. Don't the images you see carry some weight on what you order or add to your hunger level?
Food as art can be quite a fun and creative way to decorate. You can go many different ways, choosing food items that all have the same or similar color tones, food thats colors just pop out at you, food displayed in fun ways. All of these ideas are great as they all put that welcoming and sudden subconscious desire for a good meal.
This little project can be taken on either by going to stores or searching the internet to find photos with the food theme, or what we did, take the photos ourselves.
I went to the grocery store yesterday and chose food items that gave me a color palette and themes that I wanted, then once we came home, we set them up so we could take some pictures.
Three things to remember if you take on this project: make sure you have good lighting where you take your food photos, make sure your work surface or display area is spotlessly clean, make sure your food items are displayed in a way that there are no bruises or marks showing.
We chose to display our food items on a butcher block surface and chose lighter earth tone foods with a few tomatoes and fresh herbs for pops of color. You can choose anything that you or your family members like. I hope you enjoy your project, if you so choose to take the challenge!
