So I was doing some research on tiling for my kitchen remodel last night and I came across a topic of interest. It seems that Home Depot has a new product that seems to make tiling for the DIY home improvement customer, a lot easier.
Home Depot has a video (here), that talks about a new product called Simplemat. Simplemat is a very strong doublesided adhesive sheet that you can apply to a wall or counter surface and lay your tile job out on. According to their commentary, this would enable you to work on your tiling project over the period of hours or days without the tiles being knocked off. Once you've laid out your tiles completely, all you would need to do is apply the grout, wipe off the excess grout from the tile surface and enjoy your finished product.
Where this seems to intrigue me is the lack of time, effort and most of all mess in properly mixing my thin-set mortar or mastic adhesive and making sure to lay it out thick enough or well enough. A project saver possibility in it's quick and easy application and lack of need for tile spacers seems very inticing.
Tile grout can be purchased premixed in ready to apply tubs, so the project time could be greatly reduced with the use of Simplemat. Something to think about, don't you think?
